Lead Us Not Into Temptation
Matthew 6:13 (ESV)
March 18-19, 2023
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:13)

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)

Follow Me
Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me…” (Matthew 4:19)
“Lead us…” (Matthew 6:13)

Believe
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Prayer Focus #1
Praying “lead us…” is a proclamation of who you desire to take charge of your life. Praying in this way strengthens your belief in the reality that God is God and you are not.

Sin Now, Ask for Forgiveness Later
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? (Romans 6:1-2)

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. (James 1:13-14)

Temptation vs. God
God's power and authority outweigh and surround Satan's attempts to coerce us into sin and destruction.

Prayer Focus #2
Praying “lead us not into temptation” is declaring our hatred for sin and desire for God’s commands to be followed. Praying this way is asking God to help us avoid and overcome temptation, while also trusting that if temptation comes, God can use it for good.

...deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:13)

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (John 10:10)

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37)

Prayer Focus #3
When we pray “deliver us from evil”, we acknowledge that there is an enemy that we desire to stay vigilant against, as we grow in awareness that our Heavenly Father was, is, and forever will be victorious over this enemy and has empowered us to defeat him for the rest of our days.

Because relationship with one another is at the core of being a disciple of Christ, we invite you to find community and experience spiritual transformation through LCC’s groups, classes, events, and service opportunities.
